Ukrainian authorities will authorize ships heading to Danube ports via the Sulina Canal while still in the Black Sea, aiming to reduce waiting times. This change comes after Russian attacks blocked Ukrainian Black Sea ports, redirecting cargo shipments, including grains, to Danube ports. The new procedure allows more vessels to enter the canal during the day and minimizes reliance on Sulina docks, addressing bureaucratic delays and pilot shortages. Shipping companies report that congestion has extended delivery times for Ukrainian grains to Egypt from 12 days to over a month, impacting profitability. Transport costs have surged significantly since the blockade began, with Ukraine exporting around 930,000 tons of grains in early September, down from 1.78 million tons the previous year.
