Declic community launched a campaign urging authorities to revise the modernization project of the Danube Promenade in Galați to protect mature trees. The petition targets local and environmental authorities, aiming to change technical solutions to prevent the cutting of 900 trees, 694 of which are healthy. The project, funded by European funds, poses risks of urban heat islands and soil erosion. Despite promises of replanting, new saplings will take years to provide similar ecological benefits. The modernization works are set to begin on August 3, 2026, restricting access to the promenade.
