Misterul pierderii gustului după COVID-19, mai aproape de a fi elucidat. Un studiu a identificat modificările din organism

Research indicates that some individuals experience persistent taste disorders long after recovering from COVID-19. A study by the University of Colorado Anschutz and Swedish universities found molecular and structural changes in taste cells that may explain these ongoing issues. The study involved 28 participants, revealing that some had abnormal taste results, particularly with sweet, bitter, and umami flavors. The researchers noted reduced levels of the protein PLCβ2, crucial for taste signal transmission, which could weaken taste perception. Additionally, structural disorganization in taste cells was observed. While most regain taste within weeks, some continue to face challenges long after the infection has cleared. Further research is needed to explore potential treatments and recovery of taste function.
