Cameroon will launch a national operation on August 1 to recover approximately 305 billion CFA francs in unpaid taxes related to undeclared gold exports. Authorities found significant discrepancies between the gold exported by Cameroon and the imports reported by the UAE. The operation will target 51 mining companies and 33 operations suspected of tax evasion from 2023 to 2025. This initiative follows a report highlighting the vast difference in gold export figures, with the UAE reporting over 15 tons imported from Cameroon, compared to Cameroon's official declaration of only 22.3 kilograms. The campaign aims to enhance control over the gold industry and recover lost revenues, potentially serving as a model for other African nations facing similar challenges.
