Miruna, an 18-year-old girl from Craiova, recovered after a severe leptospirosis infection treated with ECMO. Initially diagnosed with a respiratory illness, her condition worsened rapidly, leading to intubation and transfer to Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest. Medical staff mobilized quickly to provide ECMO support, which allowed her lungs and heart to recover. After 44 days in the hospital, Miruna is now home and preparing to study medicine, inspired by her experience. Her case highlights the challenges and successes of Romania's healthcare system, particularly regarding ECMO treatment availability and the dedication of medical professionals.
