Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, and Greece have urged the European Commission for urgent measures in the sheep and goat sector, including flexible restrictions and enhanced vaccination analysis. The interim Minister of Agriculture, Tanczos Barna, highlighted the economic impact of export bans and called for a risk-based approach to animal movement. The five countries seek to facilitate the circulation of vaccinated animals within the EU and adapt health regulations based on the epidemiological situation. Additionally, they request financial support for affected farmers and solutions for market losses. The resumption of sheep exports from Romania may occur by year-end, contingent on a national vaccination campaign starting in early October.
