The response was triggered by comments from Yuri Pilipson, a Russian diplomat, who alleged Romania's military support for Ukraine and questioned the future use of the Giurgiulești port. The Romanian government has invested in the port, emphasizing its potential role in Ukraine's reconstruction. Pilipson also claimed that the push for unification with Moldova is a propaganda campaign, despite data showing a majority of Moldovans identify as Moldovan rather than Romanian.
