Romania's budget deficit decreased significantly in the first seven months of 2026, reaching 48.08 billion lei, down 28.36 billion lei from 2025. State revenues rose by 11.2% to 412.31 billion lei, while expenditures increased by 2.9%. Investments surged by approximately 24% to 76.51 billion lei, reflecting a stable fiscal management. The deficit as a percentage of GDP fell from 3.99% to 2.34%. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal responsibility while supporting economic growth. Tax revenues increased by 15.4%, with VAT collections rising by 26.5%. The government also refunded 20.48 billion lei in VAT to the private sector, marking a 4.6% increase compared to 2025.
