The consolidated general budget deficit in Romania reached 78.52 billion lei, or 3.82% of GDP, in the first nine months of 2026, a decrease from the previous year. Total revenues increased by 11.8% to 522.07 billion lei, driven by higher tax collections, particularly from VAT. Expenditures rose nominally by 5.5% to 600.59 billion lei, but as a percentage of GDP, they fell from 29.7% to 29.2%. Investment spending grew significantly, with a focus on EU-funded projects. The Finance Minister emphasized the need for fiscal consolidation and careful evaluation of public investments.
