Romania is currently operating without 700 MW from Unit 2 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, leading to an estimated import need of 2,300 MW. The energy consumption is around 4,500 MW, with a production of 4,900 MW, heavily relying on solar energy. The Ministry of Energy assures that the national energy system remains stable, with sufficient reserves and a mix of energy sources to cover the deficit. However, the nuclear unit's restart is uncertain due to low water levels in the Danube, impacting energy production. The situation has been communicated to the European Commission, highlighting potential risks of an energy crisis due to severe drought conditions.
