Researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine have developed miniaturized brain tissue models from Alzheimer's patients, which may predict individual responses to medications. This advancement could lead to personalized treatments and new diagnostic methods. The study, published in Alzheimer's & Dementia, highlights the variability in patient responses to common antidepressants like escitalopram. The findings suggest that extracellular vesicles from these organoids could aid in diagnosing Alzheimer's and identifying its subtype. Future research aims to create more complex organoids to better mimic human brain function.
