Thousands attended the funeral of Ratko Mladić in Belgrade, Serbia. Known as the 'Butcher of Bosnia', he died at 84 while serving a life sentence for war crimes. Mladić was convicted of genocide for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, where around 8,000 Bosniak Muslims were killed. Initially, a state funeral was planned, but it was altered due to objections from European leaders. The EU condemned any glorification of war criminals, emphasizing that such actions contradict fundamental European values. Despite his conviction, many Serbs view Mladić as a national hero, particularly in the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska. The funeral service was led by the Serbian Orthodox Church's Patriarch, who expressed gratitude towards Mladić.
