Starting August 25, 2026, thousands of local and county councilors in Romania will face incompatibility issues due to a new law. They must choose between their elected positions and public sector jobs. The law applies to those holding both a council mandate and a public employment contract. However, teachers and researchers are exempt from this rule, allowing them to maintain both roles. A 15-day deadline is set for resolving these incompatibilities.
