Burkina Faso has inaugurated its first gold refinery, RAFFINOR-BF, marking a significant step towards economic independence. The refinery, capable of producing 164 tons of gold annually, aims to increase production to 515 tons in the future. The project, costing over 11 billion CFA francs, was funded by the state and private sector. Captain Ibrahim Traoré emphasized the goal of refining all metals domestically to retain value within the country. The refinery is expected to create 100 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs. Burkina Faso is a leading gold producer in sub-Saharan Africa, with significant revenue from gold production.
