Meta pregătește un cablu submarin de 7000 de km

A new undersea optical fiber cable named Petal will connect the US and France, enabling data transfer speeds of up to one petabit per second. Funded by Meta, it will be operational by 2029 and will utilize innovative dual-core fiber technology. This advancement allows for significantly increased data capacity without proportional energy consumption. The cable will consist of 24 pairs of dual-core fibers, totaling 96 individual cores, and will be designed by NEC. Petal represents a major technological achievement in global telecommunications, enhancing internet infrastructure that relies on submarine cables for 99% of global traffic.
