A new submarine fiber optic cable named Petal will connect the US and France, boasting a capacity of one petabit per second. Funded by Meta, it is expected to be operational by 2029. The cable will utilize innovative dual-core fibers, allowing for significant data transport improvements. With the ability to transmit around 125 terabytes per second, Petal could theoretically support streaming for 75% of the global population simultaneously. The project aims to enhance global digital communication infrastructure, following Meta's previous investments in similar projects.
