A major transport corridor will connect Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania, enhancing links between the Aegean and Black Seas. Funded by the EU, the project involves upgrading infrastructure along the Thessaloniki-Sofia-Bucharest route. European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas announced this initiative at the Thessaloniki International Fair, emphasizing its strategic importance and 15-year implementation timeline. The corridor will extend from Bucharest to Central and Western Europe, providing an alternative land route for goods and passengers. Bulgaria will play a crucial role in linking Greek ports with Romania and the broader European transport network. A memorandum for cross-border cooperation has already been signed, aiming to improve transport safety and attract investments in rail and tourism. The corridor is part of the TEN-T network and will also be prepared for emergency responses, positioning Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania prominently in Europe's transport landscape.
