World Rabies Day is observed on September 28 to raise awareness about the disease and its prevention. Rabies is a significant zoonosis, causing around 55,000 human deaths annually, primarily in Africa and Asia, with dogs responsible for 90% of these cases. The disease affects the central nervous system and can be contracted through bites from infected animals. Early symptoms include pain at the bite site, fever, and agitation, progressing to severe complications and death. Preventive measures include vaccination of pets, monitoring animal health, and public awareness campaigns.
