Medicamentele şi intervenţiile chirurgicale nu reprezintă soluţia pentru obezitate în cazul copiilor cu vârsta sub 10 ani, recomandă Organizaţia Mondială a Sănătăţii

The World Health Organization (WHO) advises against using medications and surgeries for treating obesity in children under 10, suggesting alternative strategies instead. For adolescents aged 10 to 19, medication may be considered only if lifestyle interventions fail. Bariatric surgery can be an option for severe obesity with complications, but only under strict conditions. The prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents has significantly increased globally, with 70 million children and 100 million adolescents affected in 2024. WHO emphasizes the need for comprehensive lifestyle changes before considering medical treatments.
