The automotive industry experienced two main phases: the 1970s, marked by quality production under European licenses, and the 1980s, characterized by poor-quality vehicles due to strict regulations. Notably, models like the Dacia 1310 TS and Dacia 2000 were designed for export and high-ranking officials, featuring superior specifications and luxury interiors. These cars were inaccessible to the general public, with only Ceaușescu owning a Dacia 1310 TS. Additionally, secret projects like the Dacia 1300 Diplomat were developed for diplomatic purposes, showcasing the stark contrast between the elite and the average Romanian's automotive experience.
