The National Bank of Romania attributes the record rise of the euro against the leu to governmental crisis and political instability. The euro experienced a significant increase at the end of September and early October, reaching a record high of 5.3527 lei per euro. This rise was influenced by fluctuations in interbank market rates and state bond yields, exacerbated by the Middle East conflict and domestic uncertainties. Following this peak, the euro decreased for two consecutive sessions, while the US dollar and gold appreciated against the leu.
