Marea Neagră înaintează pe Dunăre. Apa sărată poate ajunge la 25 km în interiorul Deltei. Pericol pentru apa potabilă
The extremely low flow of the Danube is disrupting the natural balance in the Danube Delta, allowing saltwater intrusion that threatens local ecosystems and drinking water supplies. Despite sufficient water levels for navigation near the Black Sea, the reduced current enables saltwater to penetrate up to 25 kilometers upstream. The Danube is experiencing an exceptional hydrological episode, with flows significantly below the long-term average. This situation is exacerbated by the influence of the Black Sea, which affects water levels at the river's mouth. The reduced flow also leads to slower water circulation, increasing the risk of eutrophication and impacting aquatic ecosystems. Prolonged low flows could severely affect local communities relying on the river for drinking water.
