The UK is establishing a new National Centre for Information Defence to combat disinformation and AI-generated deepfakes. Premier Andy Burnham announced this initiative at the UN General Assembly, emphasizing the need to detect and disrupt foreign information attacks. The center will collaborate with intelligence services, law enforcement, and social media companies to enhance the country's defensive capabilities against information warfare. Burnham highlighted the threat posed by Russia, which reportedly spends £1.3 billion annually on information manipulation. The UK aims to share its experiences with European nations, particularly Moldova, to protect against Russian interference. Burnham also linked disinformation to domestic social issues, noting that vulnerable populations are more susceptible to online influence.
