Engineers at ETH Zurich have developed a robotic hand that can move independently, maintain balance, and interact with objects, resembling the character 'Thing' from The Addams Family. This mobile hand can navigate various surfaces without being attached to a robotic arm, showing potential for practical applications in tight spaces. Tests demonstrated its ability to rise and regain balance after being placed on its side, and it successfully pressed buttons while balancing on four fingers. The hand's mobility could enhance its use in environments designed for humans, allowing access to areas where traditional robots struggle. Further development is anticipated for more versatile robotic applications.
