Several commercial spaces in Bucharest are adjusting their energy consumption to alleviate pressure on the national energy system during peak hours. NEPI Rockcastle has begun implementing energy optimization measures in its local shopping centers, starting with Promenada București and Mega Mall, by balancing air conditioning usage throughout the day. These measures have reportedly reduced network demand by about 4 MW daily at Mega Mall by aligning consumption with higher solar energy production times. CPI Romania is also applying energy efficiency measures across its portfolio, including Sun Plaza. The national energy system is under strain, especially in the evenings, leading to calls from the Ministry of Energy for voluntary reductions in electricity use during peak hours. The situation may worsen as Nuclearelectrica announced a potential controlled shutdown of Unit 2 at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant due to low Danube water levels.
