The Spanish Minister for Youth and Children, Sira Rego, defended the right of unaccompanied foreign minors to stay in Spain if they wish. She emphasized that Spanish laws protect all minors equally, regardless of their origin. Many of these migrant children have fled violence or extreme situations. Rego stated that her political approach is guided by law and empathy. The Madrid government reports that between 2,500 and 3,000 unaccompanied minors are currently in Ceuta, with many arriving during a recent surge of migrants from Morocco.
