This trend is driven by social changes, the pandemic, and a shift in how pets are viewed as family members. In 2024, over 326 million pets were recorded, with Portugal having more than three million dogs compared to 1.4 million children under 15. The bond between humans and pets has deepened, leading to increased spending on pet care and changes in legislation regarding pet custody. This phenomenon is also evident in Romania, where interest in pets is growing alongside declining birth rates.
