Romanian international master Mihnea Costachi achieved 5th place at the World Chess Solving Championship, marking the best result for Romania in this event. The championship took place in Magdeburg, Germany, with over 100 participants from 20 countries. Costachi, 25, also earned his second Grandmaster norm and qualified for the Fujairah Grand Prix in the UAE. Romania's team finished 10th, including Costachi as captain. The next major event will be the European Championship in Alba Iulia in May 2027. Costachi has an impressive chess background, having started at age 4 and won numerous national and international trophies.
