He requested a one-year delay on new EU regulations imposing fines on oil and gas companies for not reporting methane emissions. This regulation, aimed at reducing potent greenhouse gases, has faced criticism from the US government and fossil fuel sector, fearing it could jeopardize Europe's energy security. Macron also proposed temporary easing of fuel quality standards and increased use of biofuels in diesel. France is providing fuel subsidies to affected sectors and plans to present new measures. A G7 meeting will be held to discuss rising fuel prices and the crisis in the Middle East.
