Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang announced his retirement from the national team, feeling humiliated after the Africa Cup of Nations elimination. He expressed disappointment over the treatment he received despite playing through injury. Gabon lost all three group matches, leading to the dismissal of the coaching staff and suspensions for Aubameyang and another player. The suspensions were later lifted after a new sports minister took office. Aubameyang, Gabon's all-time top scorer, has previously stepped back from international duty but returned a year later. He currently plays for Deportivo La Coruña.
