The International Day of Charity, established by the UN in 2012, is observed on September 5 to honor Mother Teresa and promote support for vulnerable individuals. This day encourages donations, volunteering, and community involvement to combat poverty and social exclusion. The UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 67/105 to formalize this observance, inviting member states and citizens to engage in charitable initiatives and educational activities. Charity encompasses more than monetary donations; it includes volunteer work that alleviates suffering during humanitarian crises and improves access to education and healthcare. Mother Teresa, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, dedicated her life to helping the poor and founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, expanding her efforts globally. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and was canonized by Pope Francis in 2016.
