The Senate approved a bill allowing clients affected by ROBOR to have their loans recalculated based on IRCC and seek compensation. Banks must adjust payment obligations and refund proven damages. The bill will be reviewed by the Chamber of Deputies. Several banks plan to contest the decision. The recalculation applies to ongoing loans, including those before May 2, 2019, if interest was partially or fully based on ROBOR. Clients can request contract revisions after a definitive decision on damages. Penalties for non-compliance range from 10,000 to 100,000 lei, enforced by the National Authority for Consumer Protection.
