Lovitură de proporții a procurorilor europeni în România: O rețea a măsluit zeci de licitații și a furat milioane destinate oamenilor săraci

Five individuals in Romania face charges for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to defraud public procurement procedures funded by European funds, with an estimated damage of 1.8 million euros. The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) filed an indictment against them, claiming they formed a criminal group between 2017 and 2022. Two leaders identified programs with European funding and persuaded local authorities to apply for these funds. They prepared necessary documents for financing requests and procurement procedures, while three other members participated using various companies to secure contracts. Evidence suggests false documents were submitted to meet eligibility criteria for contracts, affecting seven rural communities. Authorities previously seized assets worth approximately 9.5 million lei, equivalent to the estimated damage. If convicted, the accused face prison sentences ranging from three years to ten and a half years.
