Brandon McNulty won the men's rainbow jersey at the World Road Cycling Championships in Montreal, marking a surprise victory for a domestique. He became the first domestique to win since 2014, finishing ahead of Michael Matthews and Mathieu van der Poel. McNulty broke away 34 km from the finish and completed the race in 6 hours, 17 minutes, and 4 seconds. This victory makes him only the third American to win the men's world title in road cycling. Other favorites, including Remco Evenepoel, finished lower than expected, with Evenepoel placing 12th after a strong time trial performance a week prior.
