Around 70 vessels are waiting on the Danube near the Sulina Canal for access to Ukrainian ports to load grain for export. The lack of pilots and prioritization of other cargo types have caused significant delays. Ukrainian Black Sea ports, previously handling 90% of the country's grain exports, are largely inactive due to Russian attacks, forcing some shipments to the less equipped Danube ports. Competing cargoes, such as fuel, further slow down grain exports, compounded by frequent air alerts disrupting port activities. The situation may worsen with adverse weather conditions, and current traffic capacity on the Sulina Canal is severely limited.
