Romania will launch a national program called 'Lift for Life' starting August 19, 2026, aimed at installing elevators in buildings without them. The program will initially focus on a pilot project for 100 condominiums, with funding from various sources including EU funds. Eligibility requires at least one resident above the ground floor to be from a vulnerable group. Prioritization will be based on the number of vulnerable residents and building height. Buildings with seismic risks RsI and RsII are excluded unless part of seismic consolidation projects. Local authorities must inventory buildings without elevators within six months of the law's enactment.
