Romania is launching a national program to install elevators in buildings not originally designed with them, funded by European and local budgets. The law, effective from August, targets condominiums with at least three floors lacking elevators. Eligible buildings must have residents with mobility challenges or young children. The program starts with a pilot phase for 100 condominiums, with local authorities managing the projects. Maintenance costs will be borne by homeowners, and municipalities must inventory eligible buildings within six months.
