President Nicușor Dan has enacted a law prohibiting high schools in Romania from conducting their own admission exams. This decision follows criticism regarding the inequities such exams could perpetuate, particularly benefiting students from wealthier families. The interim Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, emphasized that the previous law allowed for such exams, but urged lawmakers to reconsider this approach. A new legislative proposal has been submitted to delay the implementation of parallel admissions for two years, while the Senate has also voted to eliminate the high school admission exam altogether, which was introduced in addition to the National Evaluation.
