The Romanian leu has reached its lowest historical level against the euro, trading at 5.35 lei in the interbank market. This depreciation is attributed to a significant drop in BNR's foreign reserves and ongoing political uncertainty. The central bank reported a decrease of nearly 5 billion euros in reserves over the past month, now totaling 60.06 billion euros. The official exchange rate was set at 5.2777 lei/euro, but market reactions pushed the euro higher, affecting costs for consumers, especially for rent and services priced in euros.
