A new law passed by the Romanian Chamber of Deputies aims to encourage citizens to replace traditional stoves with more efficient heating alternatives. The initiative is not mandatory but offers recommendations for transitioning away from stoves, which currently heat 3.5 million homes. The law seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency by 2040. Proposed alternatives include geothermal sources, heat pumps, solar collectors, and high-efficiency cogeneration systems. Support programs will be established to assist with the transition, funded through various sources, including state budgets and environmental funds. The law must still be approved by the Senate to take effect.
