Legătura dintre microbiom și răspândirea cancerului de sân. Mecanismul descoperit de cercetători

Research indicates that an imbalance in gut bacteria may promote the spread of breast cancer cells to the lungs. A study on mice showed that using colesevelam, a cholesterol-lowering medication, could reduce this process. The study focused on hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, which affects about 80% of diagnosed patients. The findings suggest that primary bile acids accumulate due to dysbiosis, leading to inflammation and increased tumor cell migration. While promising, the effects of colesevelam on metastasis in human patients remain untested. Future research aims to explore whether bile acid sequestrants can limit metastasis in patients and to restore beneficial gut bacteria populations.
