Lacul care aproape că a dispărut. În doar 10 ani, suprafața lui s-a redus cu peste 90%: „Era plin de pescari și păsări. Ceea ce vedem este o dezamăgire”
Lake Koroneia in northern Greece has drastically shrunk by over 90% in the last decade due to drought, high temperatures, and excessive water use for irrigation. Once a vital wetland and habitat for migratory birds, it now covers only 2.7 square kilometers compared to 34.4 square kilometers in 2016. The decline began after the rainy season of 2015-2016, with reduced precipitation and increased evaporation exacerbating the situation. Farmers have turned to the lake for irrigation amid water shortages, contributing to its depletion. Authorities have been urged to manage the lake better, and measures are being implemented to monitor water usage more strictly. The lake's condition reflects broader climate change impacts in northern Greece, with unpredictable rainfall and increasing heat stress on water resources.
