Despite initial public resistance, the change was implemented after years of debate due to increasing international traffic. A massive awareness campaign preceded the switch, featuring the letter H on various items. The transition occurred smoothly, with vehicles stopping at 4:50 AM and resuming on the right side at 5:00 AM. Surprisingly, the feared chaos did not materialize, and traffic accidents decreased significantly in the following year, as drivers were more cautious during the adjustment period.
