In Pacoima, Los Angeles, a reflective coating was applied to over 65,000 square feet of asphalt to reduce heat absorption. Research showed treated areas had lower temperatures compared to untreated ones, especially during extreme heat. However, limitations of reflective materials were noted, as they may not fully alleviate heat discomfort. The project, a collaboration between Climate Resolve and GAF, demonstrated that reflective surfaces can significantly lower surface temperatures, but concerns about long-term performance and maintenance remain.
