This summer, sea temperatures around Spain reached record highs, with monitoring stations reporting unprecedented values. Climate change is identified as the main cause of these rising temperatures, posing serious risks to marine ecosystems and coastal communities. The Dragonera buoy recorded a peak of 33.02°C on August 5, the highest ever noted. Coastal buoys near Tarragona and Barcelona also reported temperatures above 30°C. Spain experienced extreme heat on land as well, with a record 61 days of heatwave conditions this year, surpassing the previous record of 41 days in 2022.
