Kremlinul pune victoria AfD pe seama renunțării Germaniei la gazul rusesc ieftin. Emisarul lui Putin a susținut public partidul înaintea alegerilor

The Kremlin attributed the far-right AfD's victory in regional elections to Germany's decision to stop buying cheap Russian gas, opting for more expensive US energy instead. AfD secured 38.2% of the votes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, surpassing the SPD's 35.5%. The CDU, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, failed to meet the electoral threshold for the first time in history. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Germany's economic competitiveness has declined due to its energy choices. Kirill Dmitriev, a key economic envoy of President Putin, expressed support for AfD, linking the region's prosperity to the return of Russian gas. AfD advocates for resuming energy imports from Russia, although it is not part of the federal government, and other parties refuse to collaborate with it.
