European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) conducted searches at a hospital and a county council in Muntenia over suspected fraud involving 4 million euros in EU funds. The investigation focuses on a project aimed at purchasing medical equipment to reduce hospital-acquired infections. Prosecutors suspect that the project's budget was inflated significantly beyond the actual costs of the equipment. The case originated from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and was supported by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). The searches were carried out with assistance from various Romanian law enforcement agencies.
