Greek toy and home products retailer Jumbo is continuing its investments in Romania despite the challenging market conditions. The company plans to acquire a 60,000 sqm space for a distribution center and aims to double its store count over the next decade. Currently, Jumbo operates 20 large stores in Romania and will open another in Baia Mare in October. The retailer is also testing a new smaller 'pop-up' store format in high-traffic areas, with openings planned for 2027-2028. Despite these plans, the Romanian market remains difficult due to high inflation and increased VAT, leading to stagnant sales. Jumbo reported a 5% sales decline in the first eight months of the year, while overall sales for the first half of 2026 increased by 4.42%.
