Japan is rapidly constructing its first SPY-7 Aegis missile defense warship, set to be operational next year. The vessel, weighing 12,000 tons, features advanced radar and missile systems, including SM-3, SM-6, and future Tomahawk missiles. The ship aims to enhance Japan's defense capabilities against missiles, drones, and surface threats. Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the first ship is expected to be commissioned by the end of fiscal year 2027, with a second ship following in 2028. The design allows for future upgrades, including high-energy laser systems.
