Italy has begun random checks at airports and seaports for travelers arriving from Spain due to a temporary suspension of the Schengen agreement. This decision follows a surge in illegal migration to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Passengers are required to present identification upon arrival, and additional document checks are being conducted in public areas of airports. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized the need for a collective European response to illegal immigration, advocating for stronger external border controls. A letter signed by 22 EU member states, including Italy and Denmark, has been sent to the European Commission president, urging urgent action on this issue.
